About

This blog is an account of my pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied de Port in France through Spain, to Santiago de Compostela, and possibly to the "end of the world", or Finisterre. It is a walking trip, and will cover 879 km or 546 miles.  I am walking with my friend Peter DeWaard, and we leave the end of August 2022 and finish by the end of October 2022.

The Way of St. James is the ancient pilgrimage routes along the Camino de Santiago, that lead to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. Ours is known as the French Way, and is considered the most popular route. Legend has it that the body of St James ( Santiago in Spanish ) was brought back to Spain, and enshrined at the Cathedral at Santiago. That is why pilgrims started walking from their homes to Santiago, which created these routes over 1000 years ago.
